Kai-lan is one decked out dinosaur for Halloween! A bit of food coloring, frosting & a big imagination is all it takes to make this a party time staple.
Watch Kai-lan every day on Nick Jr.
Spoon 3 tablespoons of vanilla frosting into a plastic resealable bag. Divide the remaining vanilla in half. Tint one part beige by combining the yellow and brown food coloring. Tint the other part light purple by adding the purple food coloring to the vanilla frosting. Spoon into a plastic resealable bag. Tint the chocolate frosting black with the black food coloring. Spoon into a separate resealable bag. Seal all of the bags.
Cut the chocolate taffy rolls into 24 pieces. Shape each piece into a flat 1/4-inch oval for the eyes. Cut the white fruit chews into 12 pieces. Shape each piece into a cone shape for the horn on Kai-lan’s costume (use the photo as a guide). Place candies on a sheet of wax paper until ready to use.
Spread a thin layer of the beige frosting on top of the cupcakes and make smooth. Snip a small corner from the bag containing the purple frosting. Pipe a line across the top third of the cupcake. Pipe lines of frosting down each side of the cupcake. Fill in the top third with more purple frosting and spread to make smooth.
Snip a very small corner from the bags with the white and black frosting. Pipe the eyes on top with the vanilla frosting. Add the chocolate taffy roll ovals. Pipe the hair, eyebrows, lashes, pupils, nose and mouth with the black frosting. Pipe a dot of vanilla frosting as the sparkle in the eyes. Continue with the remaining cupcakes and frosting.
Add the white fruit chew cone as the horn on top of the cupcake.
