2/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 roll (18 oz.) refrigerated sugar-cookie dough
2 egg whites (or the equivalent made with powdered egg whites and water)
2 cups confectioners' sugar
Purple food-coloring paste
1/2 cup yellow-colored sugar
8 plain bread sticks (about 3/4 inch wide)
Star-shaped cookie cutter (3-inch)

Start Cooking

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Knead the flour into the cookie dough until smooth. Working with about half the dough at a time, roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut out stars with the cookie cutter. Reroll scraps with remaining dough and cut out more cookies.

Step 2
Bake the stars on a nonstick cookie sheet until golden brown, approximately 10 to 12 minutes. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool.

Step 3
Beat the egg whites and confectioners' sugar with an electric mixer set at high speed until light and fluffy. Tint 1/2 cup of this white frosting purple and place it in a resealable bag.

Step 4
Using a spatula, spread the tops of the cooled cookies with white frosting and sprinkle with the yellow sugar to coat. Let the frosting dry about 30 minutes.

Step 5
Attach the cookies to the bread sticks using a generous dollop of white frosting. Let dry in a cool place at least three hours.

Step 6
Snip a small corner from the bag of purple frosting and pipe the names of the children on top.
