Milli Cupcakes

Invite your little Umi fan on a cupcake decorating mission!

Ingredients

• 12 vanilla cupcakes baked in foil liners
• 1 can (16 oz.) vanilla frosting
• Neon pink, yellow, and red food coloring
• 12 yellow spice drops
• 6 strands red licorice laces
• 1 tube (4.25 oz.) brown decorating frosting
• 24 black candy-coated sunflower seeds, (Sunny Seed drops)

Supplies

• Resealable plastic bag
• Wire cooling rack

Directions

1. Step 1

   In a shallow bowl, tint 1 cup of the vanilla frosting with neon pink food coloring. Tint 1/4 cup of the vanilla frosting bright yellow and spoon into a resealable bag. Tint 1/4 cup of the vanilla frosting red and spoon into a resealable bag. Tint the remaining frosting pale pink--just add a bit of red food coloring.

2. Step 2

   Heat the neon pink frosting in the shallow bowl in the microwave for 10 seconds, stir well. Continue to microwave at 5-second intervals, stirring well, until the thickness is similar to that of slightly whipped cream.

3. Step 3

   Dip the top of a cupcake in the melted frosting up to the foil liner. Allow the excess frosting to drip off. Invert and place on a wire cooling rack. Repeat with the remaining cupcakes.

4. Step 4

   Snip a small corner from the bag with the yellow frosting. Pipe an oval over the bottom third of cupcake as Milli's face. Fill in with some of the light pink frosting.

5. Step 5

   Add the black candies as the eyes. Snip a very small corner from the bag with the red frosting. Pipe hair and eyebrows. Pipe a brown mouth.

6. Step 6

   Trim the flat bottom of the spice drops with a small knife and discard. Press a 4-inch length of licorice into each rounded end of the spice drops. Press the cut end of spice drop on either side of the top of the cupcake as Milli's hair.

7. Step 7

   Repeat with the remaining cupcakes.

8. Play & Learn Together

   Practice early math with cupcake decorations! Try counting and sorting the candy ingredients with your child. Help your child count out each of the candy ingredients and then sort them into separate piles by color and then by ingredient. When it's time to add these ingredients, read aloud how many pieces will be needed and ask your child to count out and retrieve the ingredients from their piles.
