Miss Spider's Homespun Pumpkin Cookies

Ingredients

• 1 cup sugar
• 1 fifteen-oz. can pumpkin purée
• 1 egg
• 1 can vanilla frosting
• 1 cup vegetable shortening
• Black frosting tubes
• 1 tsp. baking soda
• 1 tsp. cinnamon
• 2 cups flour
• 1/2 tsp. salt
• Toothpicks

Directions

1. Step 1

   Preheat oven to 375°F. Help kids measure the baking soda, cinnamon, and salt into a bowl.

2. Step 2

   With a big spoon, cream the shortening, sugar, and pumpkin purée in a separate bowl. Add the egg and let kids mix it in.

3. Step 3

   Show kids how to sift in the dry ingredients and mix everything thoroughly with the spoon.

4. Step 4

   Drop heaping spoonfuls onto a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 25-30 minutes.

5. Step 5

   When cooled, ice cookies with frosting. Use the black frosting tubes to draw concentric circles on each. Use a toothpick to pull the black frosting out from the center (like spokes of a wheel).
