  • 12-cup cupcake pan
  • 12 cupcake paper liners
  • Resealable plastic bag

Directions

  1. Step 1

    Preheat the oven to 400-degrees F. Line a 12-cup cupcake pan with paper liners.

  2. Step 2

    After mixing together the ingredients for the Basic Muffins, help kids stir in 1 cup of the chocolate chips and the orange zest.

  3. Step 3

    Kids can spoon the mixture into prepared muffin pans. Bake until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 20 to 25 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack. Invert and cool completely.

  4. Step 4

    In the microwave (set at low power), heat the remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips in an open, resealable bag, just until melted. Snip a small corner from the bag and drizzle the chocolate on top of each muffin.

Tip: If you don't have a zester, you can use the smaller holes of a box grater. Be sure to grate the orange-colored part of the rind, and not the bitter white intererior.
