Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate frosting
  • Black and yellow food coloring
  • 1 can (16 oz) vanilla frosting
  • 12 unfrosted cupcakes in your child's favorite flavor
  • 6 chocolate cream-filled sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
  • 24 thin pretzel sticks
  • 4 pieces chocolate taffy (like Tootsie Rolls)
  • 2 pink fruit chews (like Starburst)

  • 4 plastic resealable bags

Directions

  1. Step 1

    Tint the dark chocolate frosting black using the black food coloring. Tint 1/2 cup of the vanilla frosting light brown using the black food coloring. Spoon 1/2 cup of the vanilla frosting into a resealable bag. Spoon the black and light brown frosting into separate resealable bags. Tint the remaining vanilla frosting a pale yellow using the yellow food coloring.

  2. Step 2

    Open the cream-filled cookies. Remove the cream and discard. Use a small serrated knife to cut the cookies in half to make semi circles for the ears.

  3. Step 3

    Cut the chocolate taffy into thirds and shape into 3/4-inch triangles for the nose. Cut the pink fruit chew into sixths and shape into 1/4-inch triangles for the tongue.

  4. Step 4

    Spread the tops of the cupcakes with some of the yellow frosting and make smooth. Spoon the remaining yellow frosting into a resealable bag. Insert two pretzel sticks, one on either top edge of cupcake as support for the ears. Snip a small corner from the bag with the yellow frosting and pipe a small dot on the pretzel stick. Add the cut chocolate cookie, cut side against the cupcake as the ears.

  5. Step 5

    Snip a small corner from the bag with the vanilla and light brown frostings and a very scant 1/8-inch corner from the bag with the black frosting. Pipe the vanilla frosting in the center of each of the cookie ears to cover. Pipe the outer edge of cookie with the yellow frosting. Add the chocolate taffy triangle in the center the cupcake as the nose. Pipe the light brown frosting as small triangles around the bottom and top edge of each cupcake as stripes. Pipe eyes, mouth, and eyebrows with the black frosting. Pipe white dots of frosting for the eyes, tooth, and fur ends on top of the light brown frosting. Add the pink fruit chew as the tongue.
