Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Supplies

  • Cupcake pan
  • Paper baking cups
Tip: Please do not substitute olive oil for the vegetable oil in this recipe.

Directions

  1. Step 1

    Preheat the oven to 350ºF.

  2. Step 2

    Measure out and place the the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a sifter. Kids can help sift the ingredients into a large bowl.. Let kids stir with a big spoon.

  3. Step 3

    In another bowl, stir together the milk, egg, oil, and vanilla.

  4. Step 4

    Let kids add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until just combined. Using a spoon, fill the baking cups one-half full.

  5. Step 5

    Bake for 20 minutes. Let cool, serve with milk, and enjoy!

Tip: Once you put the dry ingredients into the sifter, kids will love to sift them into a big bowl. Make sure to put a sheet of wax paper under the bowl to catch any spills.
