This recipe is best suited for parents to make on their own or with minimal help from kids.

Servings: 12

Prep Time: 45 min.

Ingredients

  • 1 package (3 oz. each) orange, blue, green, and yellow gelatin dessert (Jell-O)
  • 4 envelopes unflavored gelatin (Knox)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • Neon green food coloring

Supplies

  • Four 3- by 5-inch loaf pans
  • 9- by 13-inch cake pan
  • Shape cookie cutters (square, circle)

Directions

  1. Step 1

Place each flavor of gelatin dessert into four separate bowls. Pour 1 cup of boiling water into each bowl and stir until gelatin is dissolved. Pour each flavor into a separate 3- by 5-inch loaf pan. Place in the refrigerator until set, at least 2 hours.

  2. Step 2

Dip each loaf pan in warm water to remove gelatin from pan. Place each gelatin loaf on a cutting board and cut crosswise into 3/4-inch-wide strips. Scatter the strips on the bottom of a 9- by 13-inch cake pan in an even layer. Place pan in the refrigerator.

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle the 3 packages of unflavored gelatin over 1/2 cup of water and let stand about 5 minutes. Meanwhile bring 2 cups of water and the sugar to a simmer over medium heat. Remove from the heat. Add the unflavored gelatin mixture and stir until dissolved. Add the heavy cream and 4 drops of the neon green food coloring. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature. Pour unflavored gelatin mixture over the gelatin strips and return to the refrigerator until set, at least 3 hours.

  4. Step 4

Dip the bottom of the cake pan into warm water to release the gelatin. Invert onto a cutting board. Using shape cookie cutters, cut 1 1/2-inch squares, circles, or other shapes.
