Making a top for the mobile
To make a ring out of twine for the top, wrap your full length of twine around an oatmeal drum (or similarly sized container) over and over until it's done. Tie small knots around the twine to keep the ring together.
You can also make your mobile top out of a found stick, paper towel tub, or embroidery hoop. If using a tube, and you have extra time, have your child paint it first to give it extra flair.
Making the mobile strands
Cut four or six strands of twine, ribbon, or string at various lengths.
Tie each hanging strand to the top of the mobile.
Optional: To make a mobile that's exactly as shown, leave out about 12 inches on each strand from its top before tying them to the mobile top. Then pull the top ends of all strands together, twist them together like a rope, and tie them together in a knot.
Attach the double-sided paper shapes to the strings at various intervals with glue stick. Attach bells at the bottom of the strands, if desired.
Hang it up!
Depending on the type of mobile top you used, attach a loop of ribbon to it and hang anywhere inside your home, or in your backyard.
