Episode 104: Pet Shop
Skills Developed:
Creativity
Imagination
Critical Thinking
Vocabulary
Does your child ever wish for her very own pet? Ask your child, "What pet can you imagine?" Maybe your child will decide to have an imaginary butterfly, elephant, chimpanzee, or dinosaur as a pet. "How about a pet fly like Fido?" Ask your child, "How will you talk to your pet?" and "What does it eat?" You can extend your child's imagination by helping her to create a home for her pet with everyday items such as empty tissue boxes, paper towel rolls, paper bags, popsicle sticks, or blankets and pillows. Maybe the imaginary pet simply lives in your child's closet, drawer, or book bag. (An imaginary elephant might need a little extra space!)
As you pretend along with your child, you not only foster her creativity, but you promote critical-thinking skills and vocabulary development.
