Santiago Montes
Meet Santiago, the Pirate Protector of Isla Encanto! Santiago, or Santi for short, is the successor and “good pirate” captain of the legendary ship El Bravo. Santi and his good pirate crew are on a mission to take back the high seas and live by the Golden Rule – always making sure to say “please,” “thank you,” and “de nada.” Santiago is super smart, scrappy, athletic, and kind. He never goes anywhere without his loyal pet tree frog, Kiko, who you can often spot on top of Santi’s captain hat. Through all of his adventures, learning from his mistakes, and making lots of new friends along the way, Santiago understands that the best treasure of all are the experiences he gains along the way.
Lorelai
Lorelai may look like any other 8-year-old girl, but she’s actually a swash-buckling 150-year-old mermaid! Lorelai knows everything about the sea and its creatures, and uses her magical pearl bracelet to transform back and forth from her human and mermaid forms. Her special Mermaid Call allows her to control the sea’s waves and contact sea creatures, like calling her shark friends for a rescue when facing off with bad pirates!
Tomás
Tomás is Santiago’s slightly anxious, super hilarious cousin with magical musical powers - and, not to mention, the best First Mate ever! With Santiago and his magical guitar’s help, Tomás is navigating overcoming his fear of water, the dark, and well, everything else. Tomás is able to communicate his emotions through music, and can make any sound you can imagine with his guitar. When he plays his Power Chord, the guitar’s rim lights up and creates magic, like turning a breeze into a gust of wind, or accidentally turning Abuelo into a chicken.
Kiko
Kiko is a tiny tree frog who travels everywhere with Santiago – in his hat and hair. Even though he does not speak, Kiko is very communicative and Santiago can clearly understand his squeaks and chirps. Kiko isn’t always chatty, but he always knows when to lend a tiny helping hand and is happy to help by using his sticky tongue to grab stuff that’s out of reach.
Cecilia
Cecilia is Lorelai’s constant companion, a mischievous octopus who has a serious obsession with all things shiny! The only thing Cecilia loves more than shiny stuff is Lorelai, and she proves it by latching onto her back like a backpack so she can go wherever Lorelai goes. Cecelia is super fast, is constantly snatching things up with her long eight arms, and has chameleon-like camouflage skills, too.
Bonnie Bones
Bonnie Bones is one punk-rock pirate. She’s rude, self-centered, and solely focused on having the most power and the most pirate booty. Basically, she’s the polar opposite of Santiago, and finds all of his good pirate deeds extremely annoying. Aboard her ship El Calamar, she commands her scrappy Kitty Cat Crew, a troublemaking troop of pirate felines who hiss at anyone who crosses Bonnie … unless they have catnip or a tasty treat. Bonnie’s only soft spots are for her Kitty Cat Crew and her chatty crow sidekick, Sir Butterscotch.
Sir Butterscotch
Sir Butterscotch is a chatty crow who joins Bonnie Bones on all her bad pirate quests. He lives to lend a wing to aid Bonnie in whatever she needs, but he can’t help admiring Santiago’s pirate prowess.
Escarlata la Pirata
Escarlata is part jellyfish, part pirate sea sorceress, and all trouble! She lives in a sunken pirate ship, considers herself royalty, and is well-known for her dramatic flair. Her goal is to become the ruler of the Seven Seas, and she has an army of jellyfish to help her. She mixes magic potions in a cauldron which she then puts in her Spell Shell so she can take her powers on-the-go! Deep down, she’s jealous of Lorelai’s mermaid powers and rapport with sea animals.
Enrique Réal de Palacios the Third
A flashy pirate with bling galore, Enrique is a showoff who just wants to have the best and fanciest of everything. This eight-year-old pirate is always bragging about his new toys and acquisitions. He commands a crew of ratoncitos – including his ever-present first mate, Primera – that help him sail his ship, El Palacio. He has his mice do the grunt work for him because he couldn’t possibly get his fancy clothes dirty!
Josefina (Mami)
A single working mom, Josefina is the mayor of Larimar. She raised Santiago to be resilient, a problem-solver and self-starter. She’s tough as nails yet graceful, keeping Santiago in line with a kiss and hug.
Abuelo
Santiago’s abuelo, Antonio, is a shipbuilder, woodworker, and jack-of-all-trades. He knows every myth and has endless stories that captivate Santiago, and often help him figure out the best path possible throughout his adventures. Kind, witty, supportive, and never short of advice, Abuelo has an eternally youthful spirit and a glint in his eye. He is constantly encouraging Santiago and his crew to follow in the steps of Capitán Calavera and be good pirates. Abuelo is often found building ships at the fort or spiffing up the port and town center.
Tina
Tomás’s younger sister and Santiago’s cousin, Tina is a seven-year-old inventor and engineer. She has low vision, wears corrective glasses, and has special goggles to further enhance her eyesight. She’s highly independent and extremely handy - she even has a special workshop under the fort where she builds fantastical contraptions to help with Santiago’s quests. She’s designed her workshop to accommodate her low vision so that she knows exactly where all her tools and supplies are and can build her creations easily.
